Violence
in Healthcare settings
Despite the Government's
Zero Tolerance Campaign, launched in October 1999, many NHS Trusts still
fail to have in place effective risk assessments, safe systems of work,
training in dealing with violence, adequate security systems and post
incident support.
A survey carried
out amongst 140 nurses, doctors, student nurses and managers found that
less than 40% felt that they had sound systems in place to protect staff
and the public from violent people.
Not only is there
an increased likelihood of injured staff seeking re-dress through litigation,
but it is expected that the HSE will be targeting violence in hospitals
more earnestly this year.
How would your NHS
Trust compare in a national league table of Trusts who are addressing
the menace of violence ... or not, as the case may be?
This 2 day
course will include the following:
- Legal,
Health and Safety and Ethical issues
- Risk Assessment
(Clinical versus Organisational)
- Trigger
Factors
- Self Awareness
- Defusion
skills
- Lone Worker
Personal Safety training
- Breakaway
training
- Restraint
training (where identified through risk assessment)
- Post Incident
Support
- Documentation
Policy Writing
